On June 29, 2021 the CIS International Expert Forum on Information Security was held in Tashkent. The forum was organized by the Institute for Strategic and Interregional Studies under the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan with the support of the Ministry for Development of Information Technology and Communications of the Republic of Uzbekistan and the CIS Executive Committee.
The dialogue on information security issues, organized in a mixed format with the online connection of foreign participants brought together more than 60 experts of the Commonwealth. Representatives of international organizations, diplomatic missions and leading analytical centers of CIS countries, as well as heads of relevant ministries and agencies took part.
On behalf of the KazISS under the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan at the forum, the Director Zarema Shaukenova moderated the session on «Protection of Human Rights and Freedoms in the Information Environment», Chief researcher Lesya Karatayeva, Head of the International Studies Department (ISD) Asel Nazarbetova, senior researcher of ISD Kymbat Nurgaliyeva and researcher of ISD Alisher Abdreshev also took part in the forum.
During the Expert Forum participants discussed the latest trends in information security, current risks and threats, as well as consolidated approaches in developing optimal methods of dealing with illegal phenomena in this sphere.
As it was noted by the participants of the event, information security involves not only economic and technological spheres, but also informational-psychological one. Cross-border information flows can both create new opportunities for development and carry ideological and destructive viruses.
As a result of the forum, the participants adopted a final document containing practical proposals for the governments of the CIS countries aimed at improving the contractual and legal framework and working mechanisms of cooperation in the CIS in the field of information security.
